Quick Domino Tip: Prevent Domino Feature Pack Install Failures

Yesterday I tried to upgrade our Domino test environment from Domino 9.0.1 Feature Pack 9 to Domino 9.0.1. Feature Pack 10. The installation started without any problems but at the end of the upgrade an error message appeared, Can't rename old nsd.exe: access problem. The upgrade to Domino 9.0.1. Feature Pack 10 failed.

In all previous Domino upgrades this error message had never occurred.
On the internet I quickly found the following IBM Technote, Domino Fix Pack installed with "Can not rename old nsd.exe: access problem". In the Technote the possible cause is given that this behavior can occur when installing any Domino Fix Pack on a Domino server when Lotus Domino Diagnostic service is running.

So before I started the upgrade to Domino 9.0.1 Feature Pack 10 again I stopped the Lotus Domino Diagnostic service on the server.

The upgrade to Domino 9.0.1 Feature Pack 10 was then executed without any problems. For more information see the IBM Technote Domino Fix Pack installed with "Can not rename old nsd.exe: access problem".

Remark: During the upgrade to Domino 9.0.1. Feature Pack 10 I also stopped de WMI Service on the Domino Server. For more information see the IBM Technote Installing Hotfix on Windows fails due to Windows Management Instrumentation Service.
